Verify who you are dealing with
Look for a consistent business name, working support channel, clear service terms and privacy information. Check that the web address and contact method are the ones the business itself publishes. A professional-looking site or positive review is not proof of identity or reliability.
Protect accounts and payment details
Use a unique password where an account is required, and never share one-time codes or account recovery details in chat. Before paying, confirm the amount, currency, renewal timing, refund or cancellation terms, and the legal name shown by the payment provider. Avoid transfers to unfamiliar recipients if you cannot verify who will receive them.
Install software through a trusted source
Use the device maker’s official app store or a download source confirmed by the app publisher. Review the publisher name, requested permissions and privacy policy. Avoid unknown APK files, browser extensions or “activation tools” that ask you to disable security settings or reveal device credentials.
Keep your device and home network updated
Install operating-system and app updates from official channels, use a secure home Wi-Fi password, and change default router credentials. Do not assume a VPN makes an unauthorized service lawful or guarantees privacy, security or better streaming.
Know what to do if something seems wrong
Stop entering payment or login information if a page, app or support contact seems suspicious. Contact your bank or payment provider using its official number if you believe payment details were exposed, change affected passwords, and report suspected fraud to the appropriate Canadian authorities.
